Daily Program Schedule 

9:00 a.m. – Program Begins

Parents/caregivers bring the children to the cubby area to hang up their outdoor clothing and change into indoor shoes. Children are encouraged to use the washroom before entering the playroom, and hands must be washed, if toileting is not necessary. The arrival times of the children are recorded and signed by staff as children enter the classroom.

9:00-10:00 a.m. – Free Play, Planned Art Activity, and Child-Led Art

All of our learning centres, including the Dramatic Play area, Book Centre, Science and Nature table, Blocks and Construction area, Language and Literacy table, and Sensory Play will be available for the children to explore. Shelf toys which include cognitive materials are also accessible.

A planned art activity will be led by a staff member. The painting easel and art cart, equipped with a variety of drawing tools, scissors, stamps, collage materials, 3-dimensional recyclables, and paper are accessible.

*Free play time may be extended if the children are busy exploring, and staff feel more time is needed to expand learning.

*Gross motor play will be made available to children who require physical play at this time.

10:00 – 10:10 a.m.  – Washroom Break and Hand Washing

10:10-10:25 a.m. – Snack Time

The children are offered a healthy snack which includes foods from various food groups. Fruits, vegetables, cheeses, whole-grain products and hummus are typical snacks served. Filtered water is always available. Children are seated in small groups and self-serve snacks according to food interests.

*Children who need more time to finish snack will be given extra time. They will be accompanied to Circle Time by a teacher when they are ready.

 

10:25-10:45 a.m.  – Circle Time

Activities include the daily calendar, singing songs, open discussions, games and stories. These activities can be both child and teacher directed. Enrichment programming such as music, Yoga, and Dance classes occur during Circle Time.

*Circle Time will be adjusted in length to accommodate the needs of the children on given days.

10:45-11:20 a.m. – Gross Motor play (in hallway), Free play, and Child-Led Art

Bikes, bean bag toss, balance boards, tunnels, exercise mats, hula hoops, games, etc. are provided. Two gross motor options will be given daily. Free play centres, easel painting, and the art cart will also be accessible.

11:20-11:25 a.m. – Tidy-Up Time

The students, staff, and parent volunteers work together to put away toys and activities used that day.

11:25-11:30 a.m. – Quiet Reading Time

Staff members, parent volunteers, and students gather in the book centre to read books until parents and caregivers arrive to pick up the students. A staff member will read a story to the class, brought by the student Helper of the Day.

 

11:30 – Dismissal

A staff member dismisses the children in small groups, to their parents and caregivers. The dismissal times of the students is recorded and signed by staff and children leave the classroom.

 

NOTE: Children are encouraged to use the washroom throughout program time. Handwashing occurs throughout the morning, as required.

The student Helper of the Day assists with transition periods. Reminders, songs, and the teachers and children’s rainmakers are used for smooth transitions.
