Daily Program Schedule

9:00 a.m. – Program Begins

Parents/caregivers will bring their children to the cubby area to hang up their outdoor clothing, change into their indoor shoes. Children who are toilet-trained should be encouraged to use the washroom at this time. This prevents accidents and frequent visits to the washroom during learning time.. Hands must be sanitized or washed  before entering the classroom.

 

9:00-9:55 a.m. – Free Play, Teacher-Guided Art Activity and Child-Led Art

All of our learning centres, including the Dramatic Play area, Book Centre, Science and Nature

exploration, Blocks and Construction area and Sensory trays and bins (playdough, sand and water play,

etc.) and easel painting will be available for the children to explore freely. Shelf toys which include

Language and Literacy materials, puzzles, and Math manipulatives will also be available. A teacher will guide and engage the children in these activities.

For child-led art activities, each child will have an individual container with various art materials such as

crayons, markers, paper, scissors, glue sticks, etc.) In addition, a pre-planned, teacher-guided art activity will be available.

If time allows, physical play in the hall/cubby area will be provided. Bikes, bean bag toss, balance rovers, trampolines, tunnels, exercise mats, games, etc. are provided. A minimum of two gross motor options will be given.

*Free play, art activity time and physical play may be extended if the children are busy exploring.

 

9:55-10:10 a.m. Washroom Break and Hand Washing

A maximum of 8 children at a time will be taken to use the washroom, by one of the teachers. Children who do not need to use the washroom will remain in the classroom with a teacher, to wash their hands.

 

10:10-10:30 a.m. – Snack Time

The children are offered a healthy snack which includes foods from various food groups. Refer to the Snack Suggestions document for details. Filtered water is always available.

*Children who need more time to finish their snack will be given extra time. They will be accompanied to Circle Time by a teacher when they are ready.

 

10:30-10:50 a.m.  – Circle Time

Activities include the daily calendar, singing songs, open discussions, games and stories. These activities can be both child and teacher directed. Enrichment programming such as Yoga and Mindfulness and Dance classes occur during Circle Time.

*Circle Time will be adjusted in length to accommodate the needs of the children on given days. 

 

10:50-11:45 a.m. Free Play, Child-Led Art and Physical Play

All learning centres, child-led art and physical play will be available again. 

 

11:45- 11:50 a.m. – Tidy-Up Time

The children and teachers work together to put away toys and activities used that day.

 

11:50 - 12:00 p.m. – Storytime and Dismissal

The teachers and children gather in the Book Centre and a teacher reads stories until parents and caregivers arrive for pick-up. Children who chose to look at books independently are welcome to.


NOTE: Children are encouraged to use the washroom throughout program time. Handwashing occurs throughout the morning, as required.
