Why Choose Time For Play?

At Time for Play we build a bridge from home to Kindergarten that encourages in our students a feeling of excitement and self-confidence around school.  Our approach to Kindergarten readiness is done in a play-based environment while introducing activities and experiences that cultivate curiosity and instil a love of learning in our students.

Enrichment

Enrichment activities are regularly integrated throughout our school year.  Included in our program are visiting instructors who specialize in dance and yoga.  Our recently retired Assistant Teacher, Ms Jane, leads engaging and creative yoga sessions, and we enjoy visits from other specialists who are of great interest to our students.  A lot of learning can be done outside the classroom.  That’s why as part of our enrichment activities we get out in the community for nature walks in High Park, the local Library, and Runnymede Public School to engage with young students and get acclimated to an elementary school environment.

Kindergarten Readiness

Our interactions with Runnymede Public School are an important part of helping to ease the transition into Kindergarten.  In the latter half of the school year, our students start a “Reading Buddy” program where they are paired with students from a primary class.  The students also enjoy our visits to the Kindergarten class.

Towards the end of the year we sometimes extend our school day and invite the children to bring their lunch. This is a great way to get children used to eating their lunch in a classroom setting.

Community

Being part of a co-operative school environment provides a lot of opportunities to be a part of your child’s preschool life.  Parents and caregivers work together with our staff as a team to make our school a special place. We have events throughout the year to bring our families together such as our “Parents Nights Out” evenings, and our fundraisers.  The relationships initiated here can grow to become friendships for years to come for both the children and their whole family.

Quality

The Assessment for Quality Improvement outlines clear expectations, service standards and guidelines for child care providers who have a service contract with the City of Toronto. Time for Play has received a high ranking of 4.9/5 in its 2023 Quality Assurance Inspection. We are proud to be delivering quality programming to our preschool students!
